Käth & Nanei, built generations ago for generations. The way the rooms are divided unchanged from the floor plan from 400 years ago. Original and genuine. Anno 1648. On the upper floors, the bedrooms and nowadays modern bathrooms in place of haylofts. On the ground floor, the living room, the open-hearth kitchen - which is now used for regional delicacies -, the farmhouse kitchen, and the chicken house & pigsty that have been converted into guest toilet and a storage room for sports gear 400 years later. With Tom Lechner from LP Architektur, this house was able to be resurrected in its current form. He got the message to keep the house in its original form. The old walls throughout the house left open and aware. Everything new subtly and skilfully integrated by hand. Unobtrusive yet visible. The sunlight floods the house through the large panoramic windows in the corridors and draws you to linger at the window seat, gazing at the landscape.
"Living comfort of today in the masonry of 1648 - a vacation experience of a very special kind."
The vacation rooms have names like our ancestors used to give them. Simply having a lot of space - a farmhouse transformed into a luxury chalet in the Alps, dating back to 1648.
An inviting terrace with larch wood tables and benches (not possible in the dead of winter). The on-site parking spaces are available throughout the year.
Maria and Felix Schmid, farmers from Flachau, bought Großschlaggut in 1974. Martin Rieger, then a farmer at Großschlaggut, had no children and decided to move to the village of Lungötz in the valley with his two unmarried sisters KÄTH and NANEI (whom the house was named after) and sold the house to the parents of the current owners. Theresia Harml née Schmid had loved this property since she was 14 years old, and so was all the more delighted, still having 2 brothers with farming ambitions, that she and her family were able to take over this farm. Her parents had already rented the house as a second home for the last forty years. Although it had no modern conveniences, the space itself was greatly appreciated by townspeople, mostly from Munich. And so it made sense to make the house available again in the future to people who would appreciate this special place. Not elitist for one person alone for the whole year, but as a holiday home for a few days and weeks. A unique house for friends, family, and extended family, even for small company events.
The opportunities to rent a whole farm for just yourself are few and far between. Here at Großschlaggut, you get this exclusivity. And yet there are people there to take care of you, if you have any questions. Unobtrusive and only they when you ask for them. Hirscher Sepp, a neighbour at Großschlaggut, is one of those people. He looks after the people who live at Käth & Nanei when they want his help. Every day he walks his dog past on the lower path and if you need, you just have to wave at him or call him. As an Annaberg local, he knows his home and is the person to go to for any technical assistance in the house.
Elvis - that's his real name - is the person to book if you want any interim cleaning done. And Max is the perfect man for hot food, whether home cooking or catering. The team at www.flachau1.com. handles everything in writing. Your enquiry, booking, payment, and registration are done in advance by email. The time you spend in Käth & Nanei at Großschlaggut should be as carefree as possible.
